Grab the open jobs before it’s too late!
While April’s open job numbers were particularly disappointing, May’s were far worse, prompting many states to withdraw from the Federal Pandemic program. Businesses are really hurting, and even willing to incentivize people to return to work with higher wages and hiring bonuses.
On May 17th, Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced he was withdrawing the state from the Federal Unemployment Bonus ($300 per week) program effective June 26th. As of the posting of this blog, we are just 9 days away from the deadline.
And we’ve all seen them… the ubiquitous “Now Hiring” signs plastered on nearly all businesses in the Lone Star State. By now, there are few people who haven’t heard about the nationwide labor shortage; it’s been all over the internet and social media.
While restaurants and the hospitality industry have gotten the most attention, it permeates every market and industry.
Here at FirstOption, we’ve seen that the drought is particularly bad in the manufacturing, supply chain and logistics sectors.
The window is closing… and fast.
This is really good news for employers and job seekers alike. Since the beginning of June, there has been a flood of job seekers busting down the doors of hiring businesses as their Covid unemployment benefits expire.
And it would be wise for job seekers to jump in now to take advantage of employers’ generous sign-on and/or hiring bonuses. By mid-to-late-summer there will be more seekers than available jobs, thereby tipping the market back in favor of employers. So don’t wait if you’re looking for work!
